My 6th Haircut!

Being the son of a military dad, Carsten doesn't have a chance to grow his hair past his ears! He's already on his 6th haircut and not even a year old! Its always fun taking him but its getting harder to hold him still:) This time we went to Sport Clips so he could watch sports and flirt with all the cute girls:)

Baby shower cake

So here's a picture of the cake I made for my friend's baby shower yesterday. It wasn't exactly what I had planned but I guess it was decent for my first stacked cake and use of gum paste. The flowers on the front and polka dots were done in gum paste and there is a teddy bear on top in gum paste too (its like fondant). It was quite an experience making. Believe it or not, the hardest part is getting the actual cake made. They either sink in the middle or break apart after they're done so it took me a couple of tries. The icing is also hard to get the right consistency. I hope I continue to get better, I've decided I'm not giving up on this until I can make cute cakes!! The shower was fun, the theme was pink and brown polka dots so the cake matched everything:) Enjoy being a mommy Amy and have fun with your little girl!

Thankful

It seems like a good morning to blog so here goes! Carsten is taking his nap and I've made the beds and cleaned the kitchen. I attempted a practice cake last night for my friend Amy's baby shower. I'm glad I practiced because it didn't turn out exactly how I'd pictured it:)

My friend Janna's little boy is having his heart surgery as I write. Please pray for his surgery and recovery and continued peace for their family during this time. I remember how I felt the morning of Carsten's surgery, its so hard not to be anxious and worried. Every minute feels like an hour while you wait for them to come and give you reports on how its going. And then, all of a sudden, its over. You've waited those months and weeks and its finally over! What a wash of relief. I know she will feel the same today and it makes me cry and smile at the same time:)

Yesterday was Carsten's 11 month birthday and he was crawling!! Yes, crawling on his 11 month birthday and he did it right when Chad came home. God is so good. We got it on video and I will post it as soon as I figure out how:)

I feel very thankful and joyful today for everything. I know the house is going to work out and I'm getting more excited about our move. Its the start of another adventure! Lets just hope the real cake I make for my friend's shower is better than the practice one:)

Heart Appointment

We had our cardiology check up appointment this morning. We had to say good bye to our wonderful cardiologist Dr. Sachdeva!:( She has been so sweet to us and really has taken care of us.

They did an echocardiogram on Carsten and apparently his Mitral Valve is leaking worse than the last time. Its not a huge concern however, as she explained that many children can go on forever with mildly leaking valves. She is going to put him on a medicine to lower his blood pressure and wants us to periodically check his blood pressure. They will continue to watch the valve as he grows and hopefully it will not get any worse. She said worse case scenario would be that they eventually go back in and patch it up.

Please continue to pray for his little heart that it would completely heal up on its own and not need any more surgeries. We want him to live a full happy, healthy, joyful life!

Carsten is now eating three stage one baby foods a day!! YEAH!! I had to call the nutritionist this morning because I think he wants to eat more and I didn't know how much liquid to tube him. I hope he can learn to drink soon and we can work towards getting that tube out of there!!

Please pray for two of my friends. Janna, her son Leighton is in the hospital now in the same situation as Carsten last year. He is on a ventilator and they are trying to get him to where he can have his heart surgery too. Pray for her endurance, she also has a little girl, I can't imagine trying to juggle both!

Also my other friend Jana will be coming to Children's in a couple of weeks for her daughter to have heart surgery. This will be her second of three operations to repair her heart. She is a family friend that goes way back, our moms were best friends. Ironic that we both had children with heart problems. Please pray for a successful surgery and that Jana and her husband would stay in "perfect peace".

Sometimes I forget now that we are home that other people are still there going through that hardest part.

Blessings today from the Bridges House

Spring Update and pics

Below are pictures from Big Cedar Lodge and Destin. We had so much fun at both places, Big Cedar Lodge in Branson is beautiful! Its hard to believe just 7 months ago we were still in the hospital. Carsten has come so far and is doing fabulous and loves life!! He is now getting into a sitting position from lying down, is commando crawling, and trying to pull up on things:) He LOVED the water at the pool and the sand at the beach. He is eating better and better, his favorites are green beans and oatmeal.

Our house is finally on the market, yeah!! Now we just need a buyer, please Lord provide for us. Carsten's one year birthday is coming up and we're still trying to decide how to celebrate with our move and all, I'm sure we'll figure out something because I have to make his cake! My friend Shannon also got married, the picture below is from her shower. I'm starting to realize how much I'm going to miss everyone here.

I've started reading "The Shack" by William Young. If anyone out there is reading it I'd love to discuss, very modern language like the Message bible.

Okay, I know you really just come to this site for the pictures so enjoy below and I'll update soon!! (you have to go to older posts to see all the pictures)

Love,
